Chemicals

A compound is any substance having certain characteristic properties and constant chemical composition. Some references describe a compound as not being separated into constituent parts by chemical separation processes, i.e. without breaking molecular bonds. It can have a high index of refraction, a low boiling point, an amorphous, crystalline or a crystalline structure. It can also have a variety of physical properties, including solubility in aqueous solutions, solubility in most organic solvents and thermodynamics.

A solid state of a chemical compound is the state in which the molecules are in a solid state and all their properties are well-defined. The solid state of a compound is sometimes referred to as a solute. Chemical solutes are usually in mixtures and are soluble in water and some solvents. Molecules and ions are not found in solutes, they are only dissolved in water.

A mixture of two chemicals is the state when all the characteristics of one chemical mixture are present in the other. Mixtures of several chemicals are called a combination. Mixtures of a compound consist of different chemical properties that have been combined into one. Examples of combinations of a compound are ethyl alcohol and methanol, methyl chloride and chloroform, acetone and acetonitrile etc. These mixtures are used in various chemical processes like synthesis of other chemicals, making mixtures of several chemicals or combining a chemical with a solvent. It is important to note that there are many definitions and classifications of chemicals. The classification is based on their characteristics.
